Size & Specification Guide

Size & Specification Guide

Choosing the right tool starts with understanding the specs. Use this guide to find the best fit for your project needs.

Hand Saws

  • Blade Length: 15–26 inches — longer blades for faster cuts, shorter for precision
  • TPI (Teeth Per Inch): Low TPI (4–8) for ripping wood; High TPI (10–14) for fine crosscuts
  • Blade Material: High-carbon steel for general use; hardpoint for longer life

Cutting Tools

  • Utility Knives: Standard (18mm) for heavy-duty; compact (9mm) for detail work
  • Hole Saws: Measured by diameter (e.g., 1", 2", 3") — match to your required hole size
  • Nipper / Wire Cutters: Jaw size 4–8 inches; choose based on wire gauge and material

Clamping Tools

  • Bar Clamps: Available in 6", 12", 24", 36", 48" — choose based on workpiece width
  • C-Clamps: Throat depth determines reach; deeper throat for thicker materials
  • Vises: Jaw width 3–6 inches for bench use; larger for heavy fabrication

Fastening Tools

  • Rivet Guns: Match mandrel size to rivet diameter (e.g., 3/32", 1/8", 5/32", 3/16")
  • Torque Specs: Always refer to the manufacturer's torque chart for fastener size

Welding & Joining Tools

  • Welding Machines: Amperage range determines material thickness capability (e.g., 90A for thin sheet metal, 200A+ for structural steel)
  • Soldering Irons: 25–40W for electronics; 60–100W for plumbing and heavy joints

Safety Equipment Sizing

  • Gloves: Measure hand circumference at knuckles (S: <8", M: 8–9", L: 9–10", XL: >10")
  • Safety Glasses: One size fits most; check for ANSI Z87.1 certification
  • Ear Protection: NRR rating of 25+ recommended for power tool use
